FAQ: The Firebiner
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

What colors are available and when do I need to decide?

Because we surpassed our stretch goals, we have unlocked the Red/Blue Metallic and the Silver, which will be offered in addition to the Black, Blue and Gold. The red color in the prototypes is not available in the titanium coating. One of the prototypes was anodized aluminum and the other powder-coated stainless steel. After the campaign has ended we will reach out to everyone so you can tell us which color(s) you want.

How hot is the spark?

We have not yet tested how hot of a spark we can get but will update as soon as we get that info.

Will the Firebiner come with replaceable ferro rods and will Zippo flints work?

Yes, it will have two extra replaceable rods in addition to the one installed in the Firebiner itself. More replacement rods will be available at OutdoorElement.com. We did test the Zippo replacement flints and they will not work. They are just slightly too wide in diameter and they are too short to be that useful anyway. Our ferro rods will be much longer, over 2.5 times longer so hopefully you won’t need to change them out that often. We are still testing how long one ferro rod will last, but it is definitely a lot of sparks worth.

Where do I get a vial like the one shown in the picture?

One vial will be given free to each person who pledged for 3 or more Firebiners. I realize the Wrist & Clip x2 pledge is higher than the Triple Threat, but due to the costs of the Kodiak we must have at least 3 Firebiners pledged. The Kodiak is just being offered at a killer deal for our awesome Kickstarter backers. You will also be able to add-on more vials and a cool accessory kit at the end. More info will be sent out in an update.

How will you ship product?

Very carefully. :) Using USPS.

Last updated: September 13, 2016 08:45

Why is international shipping so expensive?

We did finally find a little better solution for our shipping, so all those whose pledge includes international shipping fees will receive a free accessory kit. Details will be sent out.

Will the Firebiner cut through a seatbelt?

Yes. Check out the video added to the campaign. Mike was having too much fun.

What is the Kodiak sizing.

Small: 5.75 - 6.38 inches Medium: 63.8 - 7.38 inches Large: 7.38 - 8.38 inches Measure your wrist with a cloth measuring tape or piece of paper. If you are close, go a size up since sweat, blood and adventure may cause the braid to swell just a bit.

For the stretch goal of the Vial, can I simply add to my pledge for an additional Firebiner so that I have the minimum of 3 to get the free vial?

Yes, just simply add $10 per extra vial to your pledge and message me so I can notate the system and, if you have at least 3 Firebiners pledged, then you will get the vial once we meet the $75,000 stretch goal. Yes, they will all be shipped together at one time.

Can I get the vial even if I don't have 3 Firebiners pledged?

Yes, you will be able to add the vial for a small additional pledge at the end of the campaign. We are figuring out all those details now.

Is the Firebiner TSA approved?

Ironically the EverSpark fire wheel is not an issue. The 4mm blade is the issue. TSA allows scissors up to 4” to be carried on, but this little concealed 3/16” blade could technically be rejected. Most TSA agents will allow it, but it is a possibility that it might be rejected. The blade is removable, so without the blade it is not a problem. It’s the government, what can I say? So, in short it is not technically approved as is by TSA due to their wacky classifications, but if you take off the blade then there won’t be a problem. Even with the blade, I believe most TSA agents would allow this on. I will be working with TSA to find a way to classify this as an approved item. I hope this helps, Joe

Why is international shipping so expensive?

Unfortunately, it is just that costly. However, we are not increasing shipping cost if you order more, so the higher the pledge the lower the shipping cost as a percent of the product cost. Last updated: Tue, Sep 13 2016 11:45 am EDT

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
