Latest Updates from Our Project:

Let it snow...
over 7 years ago – Sat, Dec 17, 2016 at 09:04:09 PM

Well, we got a little more snow than forecast here in Denver today. We woke up to almost 8" of snow in some areas around town. Our mountains are getting feet upon feet of snow which is excellent news for all the winter sport enthusiasts. Here are a couple pics for your enjoyment.

  Moving on...

For the 100+ of you who have not filled out your survey, we won't be able to send your reward since we don't have an address. Please get your surveys filled out. We will start answering your survey questions on your behalf so we can get good numbers for our vendor POs.

As for production, we are making good progress. We should see the Reflector/Screwdriver tool mold samples next week and hopefully the Firebiner molds will be done the week after. We have placed the majority of the POs needed for product and supplies. We are in great shape - just waiting on the Firebiner molds and final production. Getting close.

We updated the packaging. Thanks to all the great suggestions.

Thanks again for all your help people. You have been fantastic - a great group of backers. We appreciate you greatly.

Retail Packaging
over 7 years ago – Wed, Dec 07, 2016 at 11:29:05 PM

Tooling is under way on both the Firebiner and the Reflector/Screwdriver Tool. The Reflector tooling is pretty simple and the Firebiner tooling is a little more complicated, but not a problem at all. It just takes time. Meanwhile, we sent over our packaging artwork. Here is a sneak peak. It is a fold-over card with a small blister to hold the extra ferro rods. This pic shows the front and back, side-by-side. Feel free to shoot us a quick comment to let us know what you think.

.

We took advantage of the awesome weather we had in Nov to start rolling up the 100' shanks of paracord. Mike being the engineer extraordinaire was devising in his head a system utilizing the cord counting mechanisms that you find at Home Depot or Lowes and some custom-made rollers and such. Joe then decides to just hook up some rope and pipe to his truck, lay down cones and start pulling and rolling up the old-fashioned way. It may not be sophisticated, but it gets the job done quite well. The cord all runs through a glove to make sure it is nice and clean (yes, we did sweep the street, no worries). We still like Mike's idea - maybe sometime in the future. For now, we will just go the quick and easy truck method. Here are some pics from our paracord pulling fun in the sun on a crisp November day in Colorado (it is snowing right now as I type).

We hope all who celebrate Thanksgiving had a wonderful holiday.

All the best,

Joe & Mike

3,460 done, 206 to go...
over 7 years ago – Mon, Nov 21, 2016 at 10:30:22 PM

Good Morning!

Great news! The latest round of prototypes are working fabulously well. We identified a couple slight tweaks to make the Firebiner even better and the factory is completely on board with our changes. Tooling is now officially underway. Woohoo!

This is not our mold obviously. I just wanted to show you the process for a steel tool being cut with a CNC machine.
This is not our mold obviously. I just wanted to show you the process for a steel tool being cut with a CNC machine.

Thank you very much to the 3,460 of you who have already filled out your survey. You will notice that we locked those down, meaning that those pledges are set and will be the first ones shipped in Feb/Mar 2017.

We have a few credit cards that were flagged or declined. If you are one of these "lucky" ones, then you will get a specific email from Backerkit notifying you. Please work directly with Backerkit to switch cards or otherwise resolve it.

Now, to the 206 backers who have not yet completed your survey. We really need your help. Please fill out the survey ASAP. You should be getting frequent emails from Backerkit bugging you to fill out your survey. The best way to make those stop is to fill our your survey. Oh, and did I mention to fill out your survey? If you misplaced all those emails from Backerkit, click here.

Even after surveys are "locked down" you still have opportunities to update your address if needed, all the way up to just a couple weeks before we start shipping.

Have a great week everyone. For those who celebrate with us, Happy Thanksgiving!

Survey says... Last call for updates
over 7 years ago – Tue, Nov 15, 2016 at 11:16:50 AM

The “last” day to make final updates to your order was yesterday but we still have over 280 backers to make selections. We need to lock the rewards, so we are keeping the survey open for a couple more days. After that we will make the selections for you (those that have not yet replied). You will still need to confirm your address in order to get your reward.

For the majority of you, who have already filled out your survey, thank you very much. As long as you made your choices and confirmed your address, you are good to go. We are still hoping to ship in February 2017.

Later this week, we will lock your reward selections and charge cards for add-on purchases, pledge upgrades, and pre-orders. You will still be able to update your shipping address up until we lock addresses for shipping fulfillment.

For backers who don't their surveys by Thursday: If you fill out your BackerKit survey late, we will still receive your information, but your shipment may be delayed. If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can request your survey at https://firebiner.backerkit.com/. THANK YOU!

Thank you all again for being so responsive to answering our BackerKit survey—even though it may not seem like much as an individual backer, you have no idea how tremendously helpful this has been for us when trying to keep track of all 3,711 of you! Thanks everyone for your support!

Thanks a ton,

Joe & Mike

Last Day for Survey
over 7 years ago – Mon, Nov 14, 2016 at 10:59:37 PM

Hey everyone,

If you have not filled out your survey, please do so right away. Today is the last day. We need to finalize all the counts and get the orders placed with the factory very soon. We have 10% of you that have not yet filled out the survey. That is 329 backers where we need address confirmation color choices, sizes, etc. And, don't forget all the add-ons.

We unfortunately do not have a sample of the Firebiner in the red/black color. Sorry. We just did not get enough prototypes to show them in all the colors.

Reminder: the Vial will come in Black. Black won the voting. Since Silver came in a close second, we might have them available for sale in March 2017 on our website www.outdoorelement.com. We are checking on purchase requirements and such, so no promises yet.

Stay tuned.

Well, "almost here" is relative. We do need those surveys completed though. Thanks to all you have already completed yours. Much appreciated.

Have a great week everyone!
